Terms of service

Eligibility and your account

You are the owner of your account and responsible for what happens under it. Keep your Google account secure; Pliny relies on it for sign-in. Pliny has no parent, guardian, or supervision roles, and you must not use it to monitor another person.

What Pliny does

Pliny reads the sources you choose to connect or upload, extracts requirements and dates, and proposes a daily plan. It is a planning aid. It does not submit work for you, does not send email on your behalf, and does not provide medical, psychological, or educational advice. You remain responsible for checking deadlines and meeting your obligations; extracted information can be wrong, and items marked for review are estimates until you confirm them.

Connected services

Connecting Gmail and Google Calendar is optional. When you connect them you authorize Pliny to read messages and events and to manage one calendar it creates, as described in the privacy policy. You can disconnect at any time. Your use of Google services remains subject to Google’s own terms.

WhatsApp reminders are optional and require your explicit opt-in from the WhatsApp account you link. Text message reminders are equally optional and require confirming a code sent to your number. Delivery depends on Meta or Twilio and your mobile service, and standard carrier rates may apply to texts. You can change reminder rules or disconnect the number at any time.

Connections to ChatGPT, Claude, or another supported assistant are optional. The consent screen states whether that assistant can read or add tasks, and you can disconnect it in Settings at any time. The assistant may misunderstand a request, so you remain responsible for reviewing tasks it creates and for the separate terms and privacy settings of its provider.

Free and Premium

Manual planning is free. Premium has a base price of USD 6 per month; checkout or the App Store shows the applicable price before purchase. A once-per-account 30-day trial requires no card and does not automatically charge you. Premium includes 30 AI imports and 30 SMS/WhatsApp reminder attempts per allowance period, subject to the file and processing limits shown on the plan screen. Paid allowances reset monthly on the first day, UTC; trial allowances last for the entire trial. Unused allowances do not roll over.

Paid subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled through the billing provider. Cancelling renewal keeps access through the remaining paid period. When Premium ends, manual planning and existing tasks remain available, while premium processing pauses. Deleting a Pliny account cancels web subscriptions; subscriptions purchased through Apple must be cancelled separately in Apple account settings.

Buddies

You may invite someone you trust as a buddy and grant them view or edit access to specific areas. You are responsible for choosing whom you invite and what you share. A buddy must follow these terms and may only act within the access you grant.

Shared tasks

You may invite people by email to a specific task as an editor or participant. You are responsible for the address, task content, and role you choose. Invitees must explicitly accept using the invited address, may decline or leave, and gain no access to the surrounding workspace. Editors may change the task and its participants; participants may update only their own progress and planning. An accepted collaborator may remain in the inviter’s private quick-add contacts until either account is deleted.

Acceptable use

Do not use Pliny to break the law, to access another person’s data without permission, to upload malicious files, to record people without the consent the law requires, or to interfere with the service or its security. We may suspend accounts that put other users or the service at risk.

Your content

You keep all rights to the content you add or connect. You give us only the permission needed to store, process, and display it to you and to the buddies and task collaborators you authorize, so that the service can work. We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use it to train generalized AI models.

Availability and changes

Pliny is an early-stage service. We aim for reliability but do not promise uninterrupted availability, and features may change. We will give reasonable notice of changes that materially reduce what the service does.

Ending the agreement

You can stop using Pliny and delete your account at any time. We may end the agreement with reasonable notice, or immediately if you seriously breach these terms. Deletion follows the retention rules in the privacy policy.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, Pliny is provided “as is”, and we are not liable for indirect losses or for consequences of missed deadlines, inaccurate extractions, or unavailable third-party services. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including consumer-protection rights you have as a resident of the European Union.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States. Consumers keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where they live. Disputes may be brought before the competent courts in Delaware, and consumers in the European Union may also use the European Commission’s online dispute-resolution platform.
